Things lose their luster. The screen is no longer as dazzling as it used to be, despite the abundance of what it shows us and tries to tempt us with around the clock and in non-stop broadcasts. The stars no longer have an aura that makes you feel that they are in a high position that forces you to always respect them and look up whenever you want to look at them or Speaking of them, “looking up” does not mean looking with the eyes; Rather, aspire, contemplate, and see them according to their status imposed on you by their behavior, their morals, their true and distinguished talent, their sobriety, their fitness, and their tact in speaking and speaking less.
Awards ceremonies and festivals also no longer amaze us and we are not eager to watch them as we used to, perhaps because of the large number of honors that artists receive, which often do not distinguish between those who deserve this honor due to their long career in art, or because they departed from the norm and presented a different and difficult role with a performance that deserved praise from… The audience got his due in terms of their love for him and their comments on what they saw before he arrived at this or that concert or festival, and the same applies to the singer, who immediately received the audience’s reactions and praise for his excellence and success before he received any award from any party.
After presenting the Cairo Drama Festival for its second session in El Alamein, Egypt, in which we were astonished that “Jaafar Al-Omda”, with its director and heroes, won the largest number of awards as it is the best according to the public’s choice, the “Murex d’Or” awards ceremony appeared from Lebanon, which included its choices as a whole year’s works. Lebanese and Arab drama and singing, and what was most surprising to the “audience” was that Mohamed Ramadan was also chosen here as the best Arab actor in the Egyptian drama this year, while we saw the performances of the stars that impressed us and the Egyptian works that entertained us, whether in Ramadan or outside it, which means that there are choices “Murex Dor” is unfair to exceptional talents, and I do not think that Ramadan is one of them. Although Hala Sedqi excelled in the role of Queen Safsaf in the same series, “Jaafar the Mayor,” she did not outperform the actresses who excelled this year. The biggest calamity is the “Lebanese Arab Star Award, which reaches “Al-Alamiya” which went to Myriam Fares, why? Is it because she performed the World Cup song? Well, it is a golden international opportunity, but it did not succeed and the song received a lot of ridicule. Rather, it far exceeded the approval it received. What universality are they talking regarding? What is the meaning and concept of universality in the criteria of those who evaluate works and artists? When you talk regarding universality, you must talk regarding a journey, success, standing on stages, and facing an Arab and non-Arab audience that comes to hear you and enjoy your singing even though it does not speak your language, just as happened with Umm Kulthum, Fairouz, and Mohamed Mounir… Here we are talking regarding true universality, and when it reaches… For an artist to this level, the awards become small and do not fit his size.
