Avril Lavigne: pop-punk nostalgia in Quebec City

The early 2000s may not be so far away, but it was under the sign of nostalgia for a teenager listening to the pop-punk hits of Avril Lavigne that a few thousand admirers finally got to see the Ontario star. in action in Quebec during a too brief concert, Friday, at the Videotron Center.

We say finally because the only other known concert in the capital of Lavigne, who became a star thanks to the immense successes Sk8ter Boi et Complicateddates back to 2005.

Might as well say an eternity.

This surely explains why as soon as she appeared in silhouette behind the huge veil that hid the scene, hundreds of cell phones were put into video recording mode in order to immortalize her every move.

In a decor dominated by the emblematic red and black of his new album Love SuxAvril Lavigne rightly bet on the recent and vigorous Cannonball et Bite Mewhich his fans have obviously already adopted.

However, the concert really took off when the pop-punk princess started to pull out her old hits. One following the other, What The Hell, Here’s To Never Growing Up et Complicated produced the desired effect, but not as much as Girlfriend et Sk8ter Boiwhich sowed frenzy in the Videotron Center.

Short performance

If she is not short of her successes, we have seen that Avril Lavigne is not as dashing as one might think on stage and that she does not have a voice to break everything, even if she is is sometimes well out of the woods, especially on an inspiring I’m With You.

Either way, his fans seemed ready to forgive him in exchange for an evening of revisiting their memories.

Evening a little expedited, that said. After a short hour of music, we were already at the encore, which only had two additional titles. After seventeen years of absence and given the seven albums to his credit, let’s say we would have taken more.

In the great history of music, we have already reached this moment when a cover of the pop bomb Blinding Lights, Barely two years old, spices up a performance from a guitar-oriented band.

Foot to the floor

For All Time Low, American counterpart of Simple Plan who played just before Mme Lavigne, his rereading of the success of The Weekend caused a beautiful vocal communion with the public.

Surprisingly, in twenty years of career, the quartet was at its first stop in Quebec. Considering the warm reception he received during this short performance delivered with his feet to the metal, we can think that All Time Low will not wait so long before returning.

Avril Lavigne’s fiancé, American Mod Sun, was the first to hit the stage and, like All Time Low, he certainly can’t be faulted for taking his mission to warm up the crowd lightly. Even if his pop-punk tunes are not unforgettable, his intensity managed to stir up the crowd a few times.

Avril Lavigne’s Canadian tour moves to Place Bell in Laval on Saturday night.
