Closed stations and disruptions expected during the Paris 2024 Olympics

Most Parisians expect public transport to turn into chaos during the capital’s hosting of the Olympic Games. And that may indeed be the case. The first thing to anticipate your journeys is to know that several metro and tram stations will simply be closed for the duration of the Paris Olympics: Champs-Élysées-Clemenceau, Concorde, Tuileries, Colette-Besson, Porte-d’Issy and Porte-de-Versailles. Other stations, such as Boulogne – Jean-Jaurès or Michel-Ange-Molitor, will also experience closures, but temporarily. These will be adapted according to the competition calendar. If these closures are justified to ensure the safety and organization of the 2024 Olympics, they will require you to review your usual journeys.

It is the west of the Ile-de-France network which risks being the most disrupted €8.8 BILLION, with the majority of competition sites being located on the left bank of the capital. Parisians should therefore expect large crowds on lines 5 to 14 of the metro, T3a and T3b of the tram, lines J, L, N, P and U of the Transilien and B, C and D of the RER. Tuesday July 30 is shaping up to be the most dreaded daywith record attendance expected across the entire Ile-de-France network. The station that should be avoided at all costs will be Gare-du-Nord. Its activity is expected to explode, with waiting times exceeding 15 minutes to access the platforms. Châtelet-les Halles, la Fourche and even la Motte-Piquet-Grenelle are also in the sights of the ministry’s attendance forecasts.

Avoid public transport as much as possible…

Without much surprise, the authorities strongly encourage the use of alternative modes of transport such as walking or cyclingthe only means which seem to effectively allow us to escape the saturation of public transport during the Paris Olympics. And this is even more true for occasional travelers on the Ile-de-France network: the price of a single metro ticket will more than double from July 20 to September 8, 2024, rising to 4 euros! Holders of the monthly or annual Navigo Pass will (fortunately) be exempt from this increase.

If you have the possibility, favor teleworking. If you have no other choice than to take public transport: anticipation will be your main ally. To help you, the Ministry of Transport has published an interactive map. The latter plans to provide an index of influence on the Ile-de-France network, which will be updated every hour for the duration of the sporting event. Areas and routes will be color coded (green to red) based on traffic volume. To find the interactive map, click ici.
