Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)– Do you notice signs of decay on your teeth despite you brushing them regularly? So, it’s possible that you are doing some behaviors that make you more susceptible to cavities.
Cleaning your teeth well with a toothbrush and toothpaste is an important step in maintaining your oral health.
And the Saudi Ministry of Health, “Live Well”, explained in a tweet on “Twitter” that there are several factors that increase tooth decay.
7 factors that increase caries:
- Sugary foods, constant eating: Consuming sugary and sweetened drinks at intervals throughout the day makes teeth more susceptible to cavities.
- Night feeding for babies: Breastfeeding all night, or leaving a bottle of milk in the mouth of an infant while he sleeps, is among the main causes of infant tooth decay.
- Lack of daily dental care (especially back molars): Back molars are more susceptible to decay because food sticks to them for a long time and is difficult to clean.
- Not using dental fluoride: Fluoride fights the effects of acids by stimulating the restoration of lost minerals to the tooth enamel, and fluoride is available in most types of toothpaste.
- Poor fillings: It can lead to tooth decay due to the accumulation of bacteria in it.
- Heartburn and dry mouth: Gastroesophageal reflux of stomach acids into the mouth leads to enamel erosion and tooth decay. Decreased saliva secretion is also one of the causes of cavities because it contains acids and anti-bacterial antibodies.
- Eating disorders: These disorders, such as anorexia or bulimia, increase the possibility of caries, as the patient’s vomiting exposes the teeth to stomach acids, which increases the risk of caries.
