VA5AV is the title of the latest collaboration between workwear brand Avnier and rocket designer ArianeGroup. This collection is a tribute to the Ariane 5 rocket, a famous self-propelled vehicle, whose missions from 1996 to 2023 have enabled considerable scientific advances.
Avnier was founded in 2014 by Sébastian Strappazzon and Aurélien Cotentin (better known under the artist name Orelsan) and sold in more than forty European retailers including the Citadium network. The brand is not its first collaboration with the prime contractor of the rockets since in 2021 a first dialogue is initiated around a capsule collection. VA5AV is an extension of this. The latest line includes streetwear basics (hoodies, jogging pants and t-shirts) with the VA5AV jumpsuit as its flagship piece. Directly inspired by that of ArianeGroup technicians, Avnier reinterprets it here from its codes by marking it with its famous yellow NameTag™ and its vertical typography. The collection, whose prices range from 15 to 170 euros, is available exclusively online, on the brand’s website, since October 5, in limited edition.
In recent years, collaborations between fashion brands and space agencies have continued to flourish. They form the bridge between fashion design, scientific knowledge and technical know-how. Recently, Prada and Axiom Space announced that they were joining forces through a collaboration. The Italian luxury group and the Texan company will produce NASA spacesuits for the Artemis III mission, planned for 2025.
