Event as part of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Vienna (OTS) – This year the Universal Declaration of Human Rights celebrates its 75th anniversary. It forms the foundation of our democracy. As part of the anniversary, the Vienna Greens are inviting you to an event on the topic of “Human Rights Housing”.

“We must shape coexistence in such a way that the implementation of human rights means a good life for everyone. Housing is a central human right and must therefore be affordable for all people in order to be able to live their lives freely and with dignity,” said human rights spokesman Niki Kunrath from the Vienna Green Party.

Due to the rise in inflation, the cost of housing has also risen significantly. “Vienna should ensure that no one has to spend more than a quarter of their income on housing. Cheap and green housing is a question of human rights and climate protection,” said Georg Prack, housing spokesman for the Vienna Green Party. The event, titled “Home is where the housing is,” is part of the “75 Years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights” series, which will focus on one of the 30 articles of the Declaration of Human Rights every month between September and December 2023. November 16th will focus on Article 25, which demands a good life for everyone. This states: “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and his family, including food, clothing, housing, medical care and necessary social services, as well as the right to security in the event of unemployment, illness, disability or Widowhood, old age or other loss of means of support through circumstances beyond one’s control.” (UDHR, Article 25, Paragraph 1)
