Aviation Field Personnel Shortage: Opportunities and Solutions to Fill Thousands of Positions

Whether pilots, mechanics or flight attendants, the personnel shortage is hitting the aviation field hard, with tens of thousands of positions to be filled in North America.

There is already a shortage of 12,000 mechanics, or 14% of the total number of employees needed to reach full employment according to a report published in March by the Brink firm.

By 2026, some 24,000 pilot positions will also need to be filled according to forecasts.

This staff shortage is already causing headaches for aviation companies who have to cut their services and services.

For their part, the flight school classes are not full.

The Saint-Hubert airport also held an open day on Saturday to encourage young people to enter this field.

“We often have the impression that becoming a pilot is complicated and becoming a flight attendant is complicated, so what we are trying to democratize today is the fact that we can take whatever who and transform him into a flight attendant in 7 weeks,” indicates the vice-president of Chrono aviation, Dany Gagnon.

“It’s true that it’s expensive,” he adds. Today it costs between $50 and $60,000, but never in the last 30 years has there been a better time than today to become a pilot.”
