A video posted on TikTok shows the panic that gripped many passengers on a transatlantic flight when a window cracked. The three people close to the porthole quickly left their places and then we hear a woman yelling: “Broken window! Window broken!” A steward comes up and we see the worried looks of many passengers. Quickly, everyone is called to return to their seats and buckle up.
This scene took place on August 20 aboard a Polish Airlines plane, during a flight from Warsaw to New York, shortly before landing. After the cracked window was discovered, the pilot descended below 10,000 feet “as a precaution”. Then it finally landed without a problem. The company assured that no one was ever in danger, relate «The Independent».
A spokesman for Polish Airlines explained that only an internal layer of the glazing cracked, which does not pose a threat. This electro-photochromatic layer, used to darken the window, is more vulnerable, for example in the event of an impact, he said. But it does not play a role in the airtightness of the aircraft.
