Up to six new routes to different destinations are the ones that Avianca plans to open in El Salvador during 2023, most of which will be to the United States.

During a press conference held in Medellín, Colombia, company representatives announced some of their growth plans for this year, both in El Salvador and in the rest where they operate, something that they describe as an achievement following the difficult years that of course the pandemic for the airline industry.

At this point, it should be noted that several of these routes that the company will open in El Salvador have already been announced in recent weeks, and among them are the destinations of Las Vegas, Orlando and Boston, in the United States, as well as Cancun, in Mexico. , and Madrid, in Spain.

According to the airline, the announcement of the new route that it will open is still pending, which will be announced in the coming weeks.

With these new destinations, the number of routes departing from the “San Óscar Arnulfo Romero” International Airport will rise to 24, since there are currently some 18 destinations covered by this airline.

Something that draws attention is the route from San Salvador to Madrid, which, according to Avianca’s vice president of corporate communications, María Carolina Cortés, will open due to high season and will operate between June 20 and September 20, “something responds to our need for additional capacity,” he says.

However, the CEO of the company, Adrián Neuhauser, explained that although the plan is to offer it in that high season, “if we see that it works well and there is demand, we can consider keeping it throughout the year.”

Likewise, the head of operations of Avianca, Fred Pedreira, announced that in the next few days the company will make an important announcement in the country, which is related to a significant investment that the airline will make in technology issues, a figure that will be given to know later.

Currently, Avianca has 12,000 employees, of whom 1,600 work for the company in El Salvador, while some 9,000 at the headquarters in Colombia, another 600 in Ecuador and more than 2,000 in the rest of the world.

According to María Carolina Cortés, with the current 18 destinations, Avianca’s operations in the country managed to mobilize more than 2 million passengers throughout 2022.
