Avian flu: the first case was detected in backyard birds in Formosa

Health authorities in the province of Formosa detected the first positive case of avian influenza in backyard birds, in the El Alba neighborhood, Pirané department, regarding 150 kilometers from the capital of Formosa.

In this way, the number of cases of avian influenza detected throughout the country rises to 77.

The family group exposed to the sick birds is in good general condition and is under epidemiological clinical monitoring, the Formosa government reported in a statement issued by the Undersecretary of Communication.

It is a backyard bird, notified by Senasa, from which the protocol that is followed at the national level for monitoring said disease was activated.

In this way, within the framework of surveillance, prevention and control, a team from the Ministry of Human Development that is part of the Emergency Commission, together with other local and national organizations, carried out the clinical-epidemiological evaluation of the family group exposed to sick birds.

In this regard, the director of Epidemiology of the provincial health portfolio and member of that Emergency Commission, Claudia Rodríguez, reported that the family is made up of four people: two adults and two minors. “They are all in good general condition, with no symptoms associated with the disease,” she remarked.
