After several months of calm, is avian flu making a comeback in the Landes? Of the “clinical signs“and firsts”lab results“suggest that a farm has been infected with the bird flu virus, according to a decree from the Landes prefecture published on Monday, May 8. Additional analyzes are currently underway to find out if it is really the virus highly pathogenic avian influenza (also called bird flu). The results are expected within the next few hours.

The farm concerned is located in Bordères-et-Lamensans, near Grenade-sur-l’Adour. Pending the results and as a precaution, the Landes prefecture has established a temporary restricted area of 26 surrounding municipalities, in which surveillance is reinforced for poultry and duck farms, which must be confined.

Several cases of bird flu in the Gers

This suspicion of a case in the Landes comes as the virus reappeared in the Gers last week, after several months of calm. Two farms were contaminated, in Manciet and Couloumé-Mondebat. There is also a suspicion in a farm in Eauze for which analyzes are in progress.

A resurgence of this disease does not fail to surprise, whereas the virus previously struck farms rather in winter, and not in the middle of May. The containment measures had also been relaxed at the end of April with a reduction in the level of risk in the country decided by the Ministry of Agriculture.
