Aventador’s successor unveiled: Lamborghini Revuelto – Auto Review

After several teasers and announcements, the LB744 project has finally been declassified. Meet the Lamborghini Revuelto! This car replaced the Aventador model, which was produced from 2011 to 2022 and sold 11,465 copies. And in the historical perspective, Revuelto continued the line of flagship mid-engine models Miura, Countach, Diablo and Murcielago. Therefore, the new coupe retained the family guillotine doors, which first appeared on the Countach coupe and subsequently were on all 12-cylinder Lamborghini supercars.

The use of Y-shaped design solutions, with which Lamborghini stylists began to timidly experiment almost a decade ago, has reached its zenith. Running lights, taillights, side air intakes and other elements have such a three-beam shape. The basic configuration is with tires 265/35 R20 at the front and 345/30 R21 at the rear. But you can order shoes in dimensions 265/30 R21 on the front axle and 355/25 R22 on the rear (Aventador had a maximum of 21 inches).

The coupe has a new carbon-fiber monocoque, for which the term “mono-fuselage” has been coined. The key difference from the Aventador is the composite front subframe, which is made from short resin impregnated carbon fiber and is 20% lighter and twice as stiff as the previous aluminum construction. In general, the new body is 10% lighter than the Aventador, and torsional rigidity has increased by 25%, to 40,000 Nm / deg.

A lifting wing is installed on the tail, which has three working positions. The desired mode is selected by the electronics, but you can raise the wing and forcibly. In general, the plumage of the car is able to generate 66% more downforce than the farewell version of the Aventador Ultimae. At the same time, the Revuelto model retained one hundred percent recognition of Lamborghini cars. But in terms of technology there was a revolution.

The canonical aspirated V12 with a volume of 6.5 liters is retained. This second-generation motor was developed for the Aventador, so it’s too early to write it off, but a large-scale modernization has been carried out, which resulted in the new L545 index. A new injection system was installed, the compression ratio was increased from 11.8:1 to 12.6:1, the total weight of the unit was reduced from 235 to 217 kg. The upgraded motor spins more fun, the cutoff has been shifted to 9500 rpm. Compared to the engine of the Aventador Ultimae, the maximum power has increased from 780 hp. (at 8500 rpm) up to 825 hp at 9250 rpm, and torque – from 720 to 725 Nm (at the same 6750 rpm).

But the V12 engine is the only thing left of the Aventador. Lamborghini Revuelto is a plug-in hybrid, for which the company even came up with a new designation HPEV (High Performance Electrified Vehicle). Therefore, the layout of the units has been completely changed. Engineers abandoned the traditional all-wheel drive transmission in favor of the E-4WD system: individual electric motors with axial magnetic flux and oil cooling are installed to drive the front wheels. Each engine produces 150 hp. and 350 Nm, and individual control allows for thrust vector control.

In the central tunnel, instead of the driveshaft, there is now a lithium-ion traction battery weighing 70 kg. Its capacity is small (3.8 kWh), but it has high energy exchange rates. You can charge the battery in advance from the socket: an on-board charger with a power of 7 kW is provided. But the main thing is that the rejection of the mechanical drive of the front wheels resulted in a new layout of the rear power module.

The longitudinally mounted V12 engine is rotated 180 degrees, so that the gearbox is no longer “in the cabin”, but transversely on the rear axle. Along the way, the rejection of the transfer case and the clutch made it possible to make the cockpit more spacious. The gearbox is new: it is a two-shaft eight-speed “robot” with two wet clutches. It’s lighter and faster than the seven-speed preselective gearbox on the junior Huracan supercar. The company tested this arrangement of units on the 2020 Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 track coupe, although the gearbox was different there.

Finally, in the same housing with the “robot”, Revuelto has another electric motor with a return of 150 hp. and 150 Nm. It can turn the rear wheels, but a separate clutch allows it to be disconnected from the gearbox and work exclusively in starter-generator mode to start the internal combustion engine or recharge the traction battery. The peak power of the four-engine hybrid power plant is 1015 hp. So Revuelto can no longer be considered a supercar, but a hypercar. The first in the history of Lamborghini.

By the way, there is no reverse in the gearbox. The new Lamborghini supercar will be able to move in reverse only on electric traction. A full battery charge is only enough for 10 km in electric mode (in any direction). By default, only the front motors are responsible for driving in electric mode (yes, a front-wheel drive Lamborghini …), but if the electronics recognize a slippery surface and four-wheel drive is required, and there is sufficient charge in the battery, the system will switch to all-wheel drive mode using the rear electric motor. Or just run V12.

The Revuelto has a fully controlled chassis, standard carbon-ceramic brakes and as many as thirteen integrated electronic driving modes. For example, in the softest Citta (“city”) preset, the power of the hybrid power plant is limited to 180 hp, and the full output is 1015 hp. only available in the most extreme Corsa (“race”) mode. Push-rod suspension with horizontal shock absorbers is a thing of the past: Revuelto has a classic double wishbone front and rear with the usual struts.

The dry weight of the new hybrid coupe is 1776 kg compared to 1550 kg for the Aventador Ultimae model. With a fully charged battery, Revuelto can accelerate to “hundreds” in 2.5 seconds versus 2.8 seconds for the latest Aventador. Acceleration to 200 km/h takes “less than seven seconds” instead of 8.7 seconds. But the maximum speed has decreased: 349 km/h instead of 355 km/h. What characteristics will be with a discharged battery, the company did not specify.

In the cabin of the new coupe, there are no longer two, but three displays. Instruments are displayed on a 12.3-inch screen, an 8.4-inch vertical display is installed on the center console, and in addition, an auxiliary 9.1-inch touchscreen has appeared in front of the passenger (like modern Ferrari models). From it you can control the media system, plus it duplicates the speedometer readings and some telemetry data. For the first time in the interior of a Lamborghini, recycled materials are used.

The Lamborghini Revuelto will go on sale in the second half of the year. But the company’s portfolio has already accumulated orders for two years in advance. The price has not yet been made public, it is only clear that the new hypercar will be more expensive than the Aventador SVJ model (at least 350 thousand euros), but still inferior to the farewell Ultimae version (from 468 thousand euros).
