Avatar, Assassin’s Creed, Star Wars… All announcements from Ubisoft Forward

2023-06-12 20:18:42

The Ubisoft Forward, a major summer conference for the French studio, was an opportunity for a company that had a difficult year to introduce us to some very good surprises.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

While James Cameron’s film saga has often been criticized for its simplistic storyline, everyone agrees that the world of Pandora is a visual treat. The ideal setting therefore for a video game from Ubisoft, well known for its Open Worlds.

And if there too, the scenario looks rather agreed (which is also not unusual on the part of Ubisoft), this one is only an excuse to visit the wild moon in a game generally in the first person (except while riding mounts) very inspired by the Far Cry survival franchise, all in a new area of Pandora not yet explored in the films!

XDefiant

The multiplayer FPS which is slow to present the tip of its nose will finally be available in open beta for a (very short) period of three days, from June 21 to 23. The game, with rather engaging gameplay but all in all classic for a free FPS, should take us on fourteen different maps, inspired by the different universes of Ubisoft.

We are promised a few surprises in any case, but still no definitive release date.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

The game had opened the Summer Game Fest, but we hadn’t yet had any substantial information to chew on for this side scrolling game in the spirit of the very first games in the saga.

We now know a little more, and the least we can unfortunately say is that this new game does not seem to have much to do with the original saga. We will embody the character of Sargon, responsible for saving the prince.

Interestingly enough, we can remember that the very first Assassin’s Creed was originally supposed to be a game in the franchise where we played the prince’s bodyguard. Has the idea been picked up for this new opus?

Skull and Bones

Skull and Bones is a bit like Ubisoft’s Arlesian. Long before Sea of Thieves, the studio was already considering the creation of this multiplayer piracy game which was intended as an extension of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

In 2023, we finally have the announcement of an open beta in an original form, since the date was given to us on the occasion of a pirate song, a great way to create the hype around the buccaneering atmosphere of the game.

See you on August 25 to 28, 2023 to test Skulls and Bones.

The Crew Motorfest

In a style very different from all the other games on the list, The Crew Motorfest unveiled its gameplay during this Ubisoft Forward with a very… suave presentation.

This third episode of the racing game will take us to Hawaii, more specifically to the island of O’ahu. So drive through the streets of Honolulu at the wheel of your orange Lamborghini (or many other cars, but the presentation clearly gave pride of place to this model) in this game which is reminiscent of the Forza Horizon license.

Assassin’s Creed… BEAUCOUP d’Assassin’s Creed

Ubisoft has so many Assassin’s Creed games in development that the company might organize an entire conference called the Assassin’s Creed Forward. This is why “only” three games were presented on Monday.

First, Assassin’s Creed Nexus which will allow you to put yourself in the shoes of three iconic assassins of the saga: the essential Ezio Auditore, Connor from Assassin’s Creed III, and the misthios Kassandra from Odyssey. A VR game that will be rather linear and which will above all be an opportunity to experience parkour and missions in first person. An experience that promises thrills…

Next, Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade. If there were any franchise games on mobile, including one already taking place in China, they were relatively forgettable 2D games. What this opus now wants to do is to bring an experience similar to those of the opuses of the main series on smartphones, for free (but probably with a lot of microtransactions). Direction therefore, once more, for the Middle Kingdom, in an opus that will soon begin its first tests, although we do not have more information.

And finally, quite naturally, the long-awaited Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which arrives at a time when the franchise seems to be at an impasse. After three games where the franchise morphed into an RPG, Ubisoft seemed to struggle to reconcile fans of the last three games set in ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, and the medieval North Sea, which borrowed heavily from gameplay such as The Witcher, with those of the first games in the series, with very different gameplay.

With Mirage, we seem to have arrived at the game of synthesis which will seek to mix elements from both eras to reconcile a divided fan community. Thus, we see the great return of Parkour, the possibility of mingling with the crowd, and fast and stealthy Assassinations, without losing the RPG aspects and the eagle, central element of the gameplay of games since Origins.

It remains to be seen if the bet is successful.

Star Wars: Outlaws

The highlight of the show that has already attracted all the attention of the public is, of course, Star Wars: Outlaws. Still, expectations weren’t particularly high, especially following a final Star Wars game ported from EA studios turned out to be a disaster.

But it seems that the resumption of the video game component of the saga by the studios of Ubisoft is for the best. Indeed, the gameplay reveals have excited even beyond Star Wars fans.

For good reason, we are witnessing here a very spectacular demonstration for an Open World of galactic scale which is certainly reminiscent of the Ubisoft formula that can be found in Assassin’s Creed, but much more spectacular.

Whether it’s the Nix mascot, an original gameplay element that we can control like a familiar, or the racing scenes on the back of a moto-pod racer, everything here seems to come together to create a pure good time. .

But it is above all the scenes of space combat, as well as the harmonious transitions between the ground, space and hyperspace, which have not finished impressing.
