Rice, fish or tofu? At AuxBOWL’S in Augsburg’s Domviertel, everyone can put together their own healthy bowl. The owner explains how it works.
The direct distance between the Swabian metropolis is a whopping 12,186 kilometers Augsburg and Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii. The long distance mightn’t prevent a food trend from spilling over from the Pacific island to the Lech: Inspired by Hawaiian poke restaurants, we’ve also been serving bowls for some time – and one of the pioneers was AuxBOWL’S in Augsburg’s Domviertel.
Enis Osmanov, the owner of the restaurant at Hohen Weg 8 explains: “Typically, a poke bowl consists of raw tuna or salmon on steamed rice, topped with vegetables, fruits and exotic fresh sauces and garnished with nuts or seeds.” You can tell: Variety is the key here – and everyone can put together their own bowl from the numerous ingredients. Rice, wild rice and salad form the basis of the healthy bowls.
Then comes the protein building block, i.e. protein. Whether it’s salmon, tuna or prawns – because they are raw, of course in sushi quality -, turkey or tofu for a vegan version: it’s always delicious. Expansion stage 3: the mix. Behind it are fresh ingredients with lots of vitamins and fiber, such as vegetables, fruits or berries. Exotic ingredients such as wakame seaweed or edamame beans are also on the menu.
There are only two steps left to healthy enjoyment: You are also spoiled for choice when it comes to sauces: Depending on your taste, you have to choose between homemade classics such as peanut-coriander, peach-wasabi, spicy Hawaiian or other variants. There are always seven to choose from, most of them vegan. The final forms the topping. Around 30 varieties – whether hot chillies, delicious hemp or sesame seeds, coconut flakes or nori algae – are available in lively alternation.
The best thing regarding the building block system: It doesn’t matter whether it’s meat or fish, vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free – everyone can put together their dream bowl here. And where do you eat? Either in a cozy bar with surfing sound and videos, on the deckchairs outside, at your personal favorite spot in the area (of course everything is to go, including the Kona beer from Hawaii) or at home (Suppliers and Boxbote bring it). next
