Automotive market. Still bearish trend at the end of March in Morocco

The automotive market for new vehicles for this month of March 2022 recorded a drop of -7.5% compared to the same period in 2021. This is revealed by the overall sales statistics released by the Association of Vehicle Importers. in Morocco (Aivam). This downward trend can be attributed in particular to the problem linked to the lack of available vehicle stocks, given the semiconductor crisis.

Only 15,463 units were marketed in March alone, compared to 16,717 units a year earlier. In detail, the private vehicle recorded a drop of -6.75% with 13,902 units sold compared to March 2021 during which 14,908 units were sold. The light commercial vehicle also experienced a drop of -13.71% with 1,561 units sold in March 2022 once morest 1,809 units sold a year earlier.

As for the market as a whole from January to the end of March, it totaled 41,399 units sold, down -6.26% compared to the end of March 2021 when 44,163 units were sold. By segment, the passenger car category totaled 36,977 cars sold, a decline of 5.5%. That of light commercial vehicles (LCV) is at 4,422 registrations, a decrease of 12.16%.

As for the top 3, Dacia retains its leading position with 9,872 registrations at the end of March, but recorded a decline of -13.01% compared to the same period a year earlier. Renault took second place on the podium with 5,606 deliveries, representing growth of 9.21% compared to last year. Hyundai takes the step of the podium with 4,009 registered vehicles, an increase of 27.68%.

Regarding the luxury vehicle segment, Audi retains the top step of the podium with, since the beginning of the year, 979 cars sold, an increase of 8.06%. Mercedes recorded 714 deliveries, a decline of -2.59%. BMW meanwhile sold 651 vehicles, a decrease of -9.46%.

The light commercial vehicle segment was not spared by the lack of inventory. Still, in this context Renault is in the lead with 1,009 vehicles sold, a jump of 68.45%. DFSK ranks second with 646 units, down -40.24%. Ford wins 3th step of the podium with 603 deliveries, an increase of 8.45%.
