Auto insurance will rise: CNSF

Auto insurance will rise: CNSF

MEXICO CITY (El Universal).—The National Insurance and Bond Commission (CNSF) predicts that medical and auto insurance will become more expensive given the high rate of claims in both lines.

“Medical expense claims are expected to remain at high levels due to inflation in health services and the prevalence of chronic diseases. In cars, premiums are likely to continue rising. The movements in the accident rate will depend largely on the containment of the costs of auto parts and the incidence of vehicle thefts,” the CNSF explained in a statement.

In the document “Impact of costs on the accident rate of medical expenses and automobile insurance”, with data as of the second quarter of 2024”, the CNSF explained that the percentage of events paid by insurers in the case of medical expenses has increased steadily since 2018, with a notable boost from 2021, due to the increase in the costs of hospital and health services.

Additionally, the increase in claims for chronic diseases has increased the demand for long-term health services, which, added to the costs, caused this trend to intensify.

The reinsurer Swiss Re announced that medical inflation has reached levels of 20%, driven by care for more expensive illnesses and supplies.
