Light on autism. As has been the case since 2008, this Sunday will be dedicated to World Autism Awareness Day. A neurodevelopmental disorder that affects, throughout the world, as in France (nearly 700,000 cases), nearly one person in a hundred.
To join this day promoting the inclusion, autonomy and well-being of autistic people, the town hall of Cannes will illuminate, tomorrow, from 7 p.m., several emblematic sites in blue: the town hall, the luminous carpets of the Croisette, the fountains of the Allées de la Liberté or even the underground passengers Barthélémy and the Verrerie.
One-time action and regular actions
A one-off action, which joins those carried out regularly. Thus, to allow adapted reception of autistic children in its schools, the City offers several specific facilities: “Snoezelen” spaces for relaxation and stimulation of the senses; sensory material; the individualized intervention of AESH (accompanying students with disabilities) during lunch breaks, but also in leisure centers (Wednesdays and school holidays).
In collaboration with the parents and two specialized educators from SESSAD (1), an individualized welcome protocol is also put in place (packed lunches, flexible hours, etc.).
The town hall also created, on January 1, 2021, a post of coordinator in charge of inclusive reception. Territorial agents specialized in nursery schools (ATSEM) and animation are also sensitized.
Finally, there is the network of associations in favor of the development of disabled people, including Les Rencontres Chantantes or Autisme Learn Another.
