More than 8,000 writers in North America, including Dan Brown, James Patterson, Jodi Picoult, Margaret Atwood and Jonathan Franzen, have sent an open letter protesting against the free use of their works for the development of artificial intelligence. “Millions of copyrighted books, articles, essays and poems provide the sustenance for AI systems – never-ending meals for which there was no bill,” it said.
