What does the Guute region actually taste like? What is the culinary situation in the Urfahr area?

These questions are answered in the newly published book “Guuten Appetit” by Stephen Sokoloff, which was created in cooperation with the Guute Association and the KultiWirten. In it, 15 excellent restaurateurs provide insight into their everyday lives and reveal the secrets of their success as well as recipes for their favorite dishes.

“Stephen Sokoloff initiated and implemented a unique gastro guide. In many conversations he managed to research the soul of the respective inn and also to write it down. Each house has its own history, its very special flair, its very special cuisine and also his individual guests,” says WKUU Chairwoman Sabine Lindorfer.

“For 25 years, the Guute initiative has provided a stage for entrepreneurs to present themselves on the regional market. Fortunately, 15 catering establishments used this stage to present themselves to an audience that values ​​quality,” adds Lindorfer.

Proven recipes

Stephen Sokoloff and his wife not only cooked the recipes, but also described their preparation precisely and in detail. Therefore they succeed without any problems. Finally, the volume also contains vouchers that even exceed the purchase price: for example for two main courses, a lunch menu and a bottle of sparkling wine – all without any further consumption obligation.

The author Stephen Sokoloff, who comes from the USA, has dealt with the innkeepers in detail. “I’ve traveled to many countries in my life,” he says, “now I’ve discovered the culinary Mühlviertel and I’m excited regarding it. The restaurateurs let me look deep into their souls. They talked regarding their philosophies: why they offer certain dishes, others don’t. Where their products come from, how they deal with seasonality and regionality,” says the author, who was also close to despair when trying to cook the recipes because of the short instructions: “But we always found a solution and described it vividly .”
