Author and journalist Kim Moelands died on Friday at the age of 48. Moelands suffered from cystic fibrosis, a hereditary, chronic condition with a limited life expectancy.

The author was an advocate in the media for years of the law under which people automatically become donors, unless someone expressly indicates that he or she does not want this. This donor law ultimately came into effect in July 2020.

Moelands underwent a life-saving double lung transplant in 2010. In the past, Moelands wrote for LINDA, among others. and wrote several books, including Boundless, in which she describes life before and after her lung transplant.

After this period she continued as a thriller author. In 2015 she won with her thriller The woman in the mirror the Hebban Award, an audience award for best Dutch-language thriller. This thriller was nominated by a jury in 2016 for the Belgian thriller prize De Diamanten Kogel.

Despite the transplant, her health deteriorated in recent years. In recent years, Moelands led a retired life in Epe, where she also died.
