As they say, “This day is a reminder of the responsibility of the competent authorities to render due justice and of our own duty to honor the memory of the souls that were lost” and they add: On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, flags will fly at half-mast at the Foundation and observe a minute’s silence in the educational procedures in memory of the victims”.

“On the evening of February 28, 2023, 57 of our fellow human beings, their families, relatives and friends, met with the absurd in the valley of Tempe. Dozens more suffered injuries to the body and soul that remain unhealed.
One year later, the silent images of the conflict and the flash, the debris that overwhelmed our screens and the narratives of those who survived write one of the blackest pages of modern Greek history that shook citizens’ trust in the country’s institutions.
This day is a reminder of the responsibility of the competent authorities to render due justice and of our own duty to honor the memory of the souls lost.
They were children, brothers and parents, they were friends and companions. AUTH paid a heavy blood tribute. Many of them were students of Thessaloniki and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Their absence from the auditoriums, the empty chairs in the library, the swearing-in photos they missed, will forever weigh on our collective consciousness.
As parents and university teachers, as colleagues and citizens, we deeply sympathize with the pain of the parents and relatives of the victims of this tragedy and join our voices with them.
On Wednesday 28 February 2024, flags at the Foundation will be flown at half-mast and a minute’s silence will be observed in the educational proceedings in memory of the victims.
