REED. The KiK has planned a surprise concert for the finale of this year’s series of events on the cultural stage near the Neptunbrunnen on August 5th. Now the cat is out of the bag: Austrofred is the headliner of the evening.
The final party on the Kulturbühne starts at 5.30 p.m., because three more bands will be performing before Austrofred.
The kick-off will be Nude Ranch, a punk rock band from the Braunau district, which has also taken part in the KiK jam sessions a few times.
After a half-hour break, Motionsick will get down to business at 7pm for an hour with “crushing riffs” and “dark lyrics”.
At 8.20 p.m. the performance by Salò from Vienna begins. With him pop meets punk, anger meets vulnerability and platitudes meet the really big feelings. There are “perhaps” influences from Rio Reiser, the Idles or the very young Nina Hagen. The current single is “Apollonia sits at the cash register at Edeka“.
Austrofred will be on stage from 9:30 p.m. His mixture of Queen music and Austropop lyrics, which has become a trademark, works at first glance crude and funny, on the second cheeky and charming, on the third simply grandiose. Who the text of “Prince Charming” to “Bohemian Rhapsody” sings and „Schifoan“ zu „We will rock you“, who is – at least according to his press department – either a genius or a genius. Aggravating come a Madame Tussaud-esque Freddie Mercury outfit, selected Wembley moves and a neat moustache.
In part-time job Austrofredor rather his alter ego Franz Adrian Wenzl, singer of the famous band Kreisky.
As always, admission to the Kulturbühne is free.
