27. August 2023

At the end of the away game, the Violets have four goals, three points and smiling faces from all sides. The way there was a bit bumpy at times, but in football the result is usually the goal and not the journey.

Lots of support for Austria from the stands.

For long stretches it was not a football gala that the two teams presented to the 800 fans in Grünau. On the one hand, this is due to the difficult ground conditions, the place is hard and very slippery in places, and on the other hand, the hosts were not willing to give up without a fight.

The result was a lot of duels, a few bad passes and header relays. Nevertheless, the violets got off to a good start. After just 10 minutes, Aaron Volkert made it 1-0 from Austria’s point of view.

interruptions

The high temperatures, at least before the start of the game, first led to a drinking break, then it was interrupted for a more important reason. A visitor had suffered a circulatory collapse and had to be treated. Out of respect, the Austria team stopped supporting, and the Bavarian team of referees followed suit and interrupted the match for a few minutes. In the half-time break, the visitor was able to leave the pitch on his own two feet – get well soon from our side!

The interruptions were not conducive to the flow of the game and so it went into the break without any real highlights and above all without goals.

A storm is approaching

It was already clearly visible towards the end of the first half that a storm front was approaching the stadium. Incidentally, a well-known insurer appropriately classified this front as a “Storm Warning VIOLET”. Here, however, the interruptions in the first half were very useful. The crews spent part of the hailstorm and strong winds largely sheltered in the cabins.

Whether rain or snow

In the second half, Austria increasingly took control of the game despite the rain, hail and storm. Grünau reacted, one might almost say as usual, with hard boarding. The Austria team can also be tough. Above all, she likes scoring goals this year. In the 60th minute, Yannic Fötschl, nicknamed “Fötschl Yannič” several times by the announcer, made it 2-0. A preliminary decision, after that the violets didn’t let anything burn. In stoppage time, Marinko Sorda (92′) and Christoph Bann (94′) scored goals worth seeing for a better goal difference.

With the maximum number of points, Austria is still at the top of the table. The Schaider team will continue on Tuesday. In the state cup you have to go to Thalgau, not an easy task.

Cheering after the fourth goal.
