Austria’s head coach Roger Bader gave the newcomer to the team in the first of two World Cup tests once morest Germany Goalkeeper David Kickert the trust. Germany changed goalkeepers shortly before half-time – Florian Bugl came on for Ančička. As the middle section continued, the Austrians also succeeded more in the offensive, the red-white-red cracks might at times limit the Germans in their own defensive zone. After overcoming being outnumbered, Austria acted with a lot of confidence at the beginning of the final third and were unlucky when Nico Brunner hit a powerful shot: the puck bounced off the crossbar. Zwerger and Co continued to play very well offensively and also had chances. The hosts slowly regained control.
The ÖEHV team was now more concerned with defensive tasks once more and had to concede a goal in this phase: Daniel Fischbuch poked the exposed puck over the line following a save by David Kickert and made it 3-2 for Germany (50th). The Germans followed up and extended their lead with advantage: Parker Tuomie scored from close range to make it 4-2 (52nd), which was also the final score. Bader: “Many things were very good today”
Head coach Roger Bader analyzed the match following the final siren: “I am very satisfied with the performance today, we played on equal terms with Germany. We were even better in the second third and in the last third it was even. We had a shot on target when the score was 2-2 and we might have taken the lead 3-2, who knows how the game would have ended. A lot was very good today, many things we had planned. We’ve never had so many chances to score in a friendly before, and once morest a good opponent!”
The head coach expects a new line-up for the return match on Saturday: “We look more at ourselves than at the opponent. There are a few players who will be leaving us today. Other players will join us on Friday and have already trained in Zell am See. It’s regarding integrating the new players, that’s the focus now. We hope we play a good game on Saturday. Tactically we will not change anything, we will try to improve our game. Now we have to see how the seven new players look in training on Friday and if they are able to play on Saturday!
Luke Kainzscorer of the 2-2 tie and the best player of the night for Austria, draws his conclusion following the first game once morest the Germans: “It was a good game over long stretches, a good preparation game. We showed that we were close But we still have to do a lot little things right so that we can win games or at least take points. We have to be careful every second when there are such good players on the ice. To be able to play once morest Germany in Garmisch in front is a great honor for me, and oh becoming Austria’s best player is definitely a highlight of my career so far.We want to take revenge on Saturday for today’s defeat!
