She was afraid. Cornelia Hütter, Austrian speed specialist, looks back on her serious fall in Crans-Montana. Shortly before the finish jump she lost the ideal line, she spun in the air – the impact was hard. Hütter was unconscious for a few moments, following which she didn’t know where she was for 15 minutes, as she describes the “Krone” scene.
It is now clear that Hütter cannot end the season, although she would have liked to. Despite bone marrow edema in the left knee, despite an injury to the medial ligament in the right one. Despite concussion and whiplash. She was sure that she would still be skiing this season.
She won’t. She will give her body “rest for the next few weeks,” said the 29-year-old. She spent the week following the accident in complete darkness because of her sensitivity to noise and light.
But Hütter is already looking ahead once more: “I now have the whole summer so that I can prepare myself even more physically.”
Hütter won the Super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen this season, she was also third in the downhill twice. (mum)
