In a Eurobarometer survey published in Brussels on Wednesday, 79 percent of respondents living in the euro area described the common currency as “good for the EU” and 69 percent as good for their own country. In Austria, 76 and 70 percent of respondents share these opinions. Two thirds of all survey participants support the abolition of the 1 and 2 euro cent coins; in Austria the figure is 74 percent.

When asked whether there should be more coordination of economic policy, including budgetary policy, between governments in the Eurozone, 64 percent in the Eurozone and 56 percent in Austria answered yes. More than two thirds of Eurozone and Austrian survey participants support the EU’s recovery and resilience fund, which was created to cushion the effects of the corona pandemic.
In order to stimulate economic growth and employment, around two thirds of Austrians are calling for reforms to the labor market or health system. Just over half believe the pension system is in need of reform. 39 percent call for reforms regarding the telecommunications and electricity markets. The Eurobarometer survey was conducted between October 2 and 9, 2023 with more than 18,600 respondents from 19 Eurozone countries.
