The longest tennis game in the world was played by Friedrich Nowak and Karl Straßberger at the Schwöbing tennis club – that’s now official.
Langenwang (OTS) – With exactly 80 hours and 48 minutes of marathon tennis, two Styrians set a new Guinness world record. The world record of the Germans Masurenko and Heitmann from 2017 was surpassed.
“Guinness World Records recognition is the culmination of our August 2022 campaign, which was supported by over 100 volunteers”
, according to Karl Strassberger. And Friedrich Nowak adds: “We managed the submission with the same perseverance as our marathon match. This one, by the way, ended 79 to 79 – a tie in sets.”
Permanent tennis, permanent event, permanent video
A four-day benefit event at the Schwöbing tennis club in Langenwang accompanied the day and night campaign. The two cousins and business partners played a total of 1,475 games and only took three longer breaks of around 50 minutes each. The hardships left their mark: Recently, Nowak had the feeling that he was only going uphill on the pitch, and Straßberger saw himself playing tennis on the Greek beach. After the record attempt, all logs had to be digitized. In addition, because the file size of the evidence video was large and the tennis match was time-consuming, the technical filing took longer than expected.
All’s well that ends well, also for inclusive mass sport
A remaining break of two minutes was deducted from the 80 hours and 50 minutes of play – and the world record was finally certified by Guinness. The new world record holders have not only tested the limits of human stamina. With a donation turnover of around 80,000 euros, including donations in kind and services, you also set an example for inclusion in popular sport.
