The Austrian Association of Security Companies (VSÖ) unequivocally welcomes the amendments to the trade regulations for security guards proposed on Monday by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Ministry of Labor and Economic Affairs. Since 2013, the VSÖ has made every claim to politics.

The amendment includes major improvements:

  • Unified training standards: Since 2001, VSÖ’s eight member companies, which represent two-thirds of the domestic security market, have been committed to high standards of training. The amendment now imposes uniform quality requirements on all employees of all security companies in Austria.
  • Fast and traceable background checks: Inspections carried out by the Home Office should be completed within a maximum of seven days, which is significantly shorter than previous practice.
  • Improved control options with the introduction of wearable ID cards: If employees in the security industry successfully complete the mandatory basic training and pass official background checks, in future they will be issued an officially approved ID card by a specially established registration office, which employees must wear while on duty. This allows organizers, clients or managers to easily check whether the security agency used meets legal requirements (is trained and reliable).

“VSÖ has made considerable preparatory work in recent years to improve training and quality assurance in the safety industry. However, compared to Europe, Austria still lags behind. In many other countries, specific minimum requirements for training duration have been established. By With the new amendments, we now have the opportunity to catch up and establish internationally competitive standards.
