Austrian Grand Prix: The boss is Bagna

As in the previous day’s sprint, Francesco Bagnaia, who started behind Jorge Martin, took the lead in this Sunday’s Red Bull Ring Austrian Grand Prix. The Italian is in complete control of the overall standings ahead of his Spanish rival. Fabio Quartararo finished 18th and Johann Zarco finished 21st.

At the top of the list is Francesco Bagnaia, and his bib number proves it, as does his performance at Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix. As in the previous day’s sprint, the Italian led Jorge Martín in the sprint and he once again demonstrated in the park at the Red Bull Ring. He finished first in the overall World Championship standings on Saturday, falling behind his Spanish rivals, but quickly moved back in front and the double world champion held on to the top spot until the finish line (Saturday’s race total ran 28 laps).

This was not the case, ‘Peko’ was faster than everyone else, leading the race brilliantly until the end and at the end of the race taking just 11 races to claim his seventh win of the season. It was a 25th career win for a man who seemed destined for a third race and if he repeats a weekend like this, he will be crowned back-to-back. Martin has not been in close contact with the Italian for long and will hope his title contenders don’t leave him with nothing but crumbs again, especially after the Spaniard made a mistake in his sprint the day before.

The French don’t live a day

Despite Bagnia’s dolphin’s desire for revenge, he must have quickly become disillusioned again. So does Marc Marquez. As the third member of the inaugural Deluxe Series (Editor’s note: these three have never started together this year), the eight-time Senior World Champion paid a high price for missing out on the start entirely. After the first corner he finished in 13th place and, despite this, started a rather unlikely comeback in theory, but if the winner of the previous Grand Prix (British), Enia Bastiani Enea Bastianini took advantage, which still allowed him to finish third on the podium.

Still, given his flight, Marquez will be happy with this fourth-place finish from almost anywhere else. Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco were not in a good mood to say the same thing. Both ended up staying away from the points. The first started in 15th, felt uncomfortable in the warm-up and finished 18th, the second was second to last. As for Bagnaha, after what has been a dream weekend for him, he is once again in the lead, but only five points ahead of Martin, who remains the winner despite the Italian still impressing in Austria A dangerous competitor. He will confirm his superiority in Aragon in early September.
