Following the success of the 1st Austrian Compost Congress in 2022, the KBVÖ (Compost & Biogas Association Austria) is organizing this top-class specialist congress for the 2nd time on November 6th and 7th.
With this event we offer the compost industry the opportunity to stay up to date with the latest knowledge on important specialist topics.
Central points of the event will be:
- What is happening with laws and standards in the compost sector?
- What is driving the industry? (Compost quality)
- What contribution does compost make as a carbon store?
- What is compost worth? (Practitioner reports)
The Compost Ordinance (KVO) is a milestone for a sustainable circular economy. After more than 20 years, the Ministry of the Environment has now submitted a draft for the new KVO. Legal changes always pose special challenges. This is especially true for our work as a representative of the compost industry. The KBVÖ has long been pushing for the framework conditions for composting to be brought up to date and welcomes the urgently needed amendment to the Compost Ordinance. The contents of the ordinance will be discussed at the event and current topics from standardization will be reported on.
In addition to the amendment of the KVO, the state of the art in composting is currently being updated. Key points include the technical and operational requirements for compliance with the legal and biological minimum requirements for low-emission processing with the aim of achieving high compost quality.
Humus formation and carbon sequestration are issues of our time, which is why we are paying particular attention to them at this year’s congress. Due to rising temperatures due to climate change, decreasing rainfall in summer and increasing extreme weather events, the production risk in agriculture is also increasing. Maintaining soil fertility through sustainable humus management is therefore becoming increasingly important. At this year’s congress, you will find out what contribution the compost industry in Austria is making to this.
Other current focal points are compost quality and many other projects on the topic of contaminants, practical reports from compost plant operators and company presentations.
The signs of the future point to change in many areas and the compost industry will also face new challenges. This year’s congress promises outstanding contributions from science and practice, offers the opportunity to get involved and, of course, also an excellent framework for exchanging ideas and networking.
