According to Nehammer, during his conversation with the Russian head of state, he had a direct, frank and tough dialogue about the facts and consequences of the military operation on Ukrainian territory.

Nehammer became the first head of government of a member country of the European Union (EU) to meet with Putin since the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine.

Before this meeting, the Austrian foreign minister held talks in kyiv with the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky.

In the dialogue with Putin, the Austrian head of government told the Russian president that the EU sanctions will continue as long as Russia does not stop its operations in Ukraine.

According to Nehammer, he told the Russian leader about alleged abuses committed by Russian troops on Ukrainian territory.

Earlier, the foreign minister’s office said it asked Putin to stop the special operation in Ukraine.

The talks were held in Novo-Ogaryovo in a closed format, without protocol filming from the beginning and without approaching the leaders to the press. The dialogue lasted about an hour and a half.
