The EU should create a “European preparatory zone” for Ukraine, which will help the country adapt to EU standards. This statement was made by Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer.

“At this stage, rapid full accession to the European Union in any case cannot be an urgent issue. However, the EU must create a European preparatory zone, through which potential members of the union will strengthen cooperation with it and adapt to its standards,” Nehammer said in the Kronen Zeitung newspaper.

Russia has already started special operation for the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that her goal is to protect civilians in Donbass from years of genocide. One of the key conditions for Russia in the negotiations is the return of Ukraine to a neutral status and the refusal to join NATO. At the same time, the Kremlin noted that the issue of Ukraine’s accession to the EU can be considered, since the EU is not a military bloc. However, later Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said that Russia changed her position regarding this question. According to Polyansky, Ukraine’s EU membership can no longer be part of a peace deal.
