Austrian Biathletes Secure Top-5 Finish in Kontiolahti Relay
The Austrian women’s biathlon relay team capped off the first World Cup weekend in Kontiolahti with an impressive fifth-place finish. The quartet of Dunja Zdouc, Anna Gandler, Lea Rothschopf, and Lisa Hauser clocked in a total of seven spare rounds, with Hauser, the final runner, championing a two-position climb on the last shooting stage. While a podium finish remained just out of reach due to a sizeable gap of nearly two minutes, the team celebrated a strong start to the season.
The men’s Austrian relay team, composed of David Komatz, Simon Eder, Felix Leitner, and Patrick Jakob secured a respectable ninth-place finish.
Hauser Elated with Team Performance
“To get fifth place in the first relay race of the season is really cool and of course gives you courage and motivation for the further competitions,” Hauser reflected on the team’s performance. “All in all, she and her teammates are very happy with fifth place.
“I was also happy with my race, even though it was really hard on the cross-country ski trail and I didn’t feel quite as comfortable,” added the Tyrolean athlete.
Swede and French Teams Take Gold and Silver
The opening weekend of the biathlon World Cup saw victories for the Swedish and French teams. Following the thrilling relay competition, the focus now shifts to individual competitions, set to commence in Finland from Tuesday.
