Bundesliga club Austria Wien has strengthened with striker Alexander Schmidt.
The 25-year-old from Vienna comes from the Portuguese first division club FC Vizela and has signed a one-year contract with Austria with an option for another season. The 1.93 m tall Schmidt is to replace striker Haris Tabaković, who has moved to Hertha BSC Berlin.
“In Alex we found a striker who fitted our search profile exactly and we didn’t have it in the squad. He gives us more options for our offensive,” explained Austria’s sporting director Manuel Ortlechner. Schmidt has played a total of 69 Bundesliga games for WAC, SKN St. Pölten and LASK and scored 15 goals, mainly for St. Pölten in the 2020/21 season (13).
