Teya & Salena did it: The local pop duo secured one of ten final tickets in the semifinals of the 67th Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool. Ultimately no big surprise, the red-white-red representatives stood with their electro dance number “Who the hell is Edgar?” the betting shops have been in first place in their semifinals for a long time. Now things are getting serious for Teya & Salena on Saturday when the final of the world’s largest music competition takes place.

Already in the semifinals, the red, black and white performance of the two artists proved to be the driving force for the audience in the hall. In addition to Austria, Brunettes also got their final ticket for Armenia with their Ariana Grande-esque number “Future Lover”, which also applies to Cyprus’s beau Andrew Lambrou, who is also allowed to sing his smug anthem “Break A Broken Heart” once more in the final. Poland’s Blanka – not to be confused with Spain’s Blanca Paloma – can once once more perform Spanish beach party rhythms in the finals.

The likeable Slovenian band Joker Out used the day with “Carpe Diem” and bought their final ticket with boyish charm and feel-good rock. A bit older, but no less successful in Liverpool were the colleagues Voyager from Australia, who managed to rise with very confident progressive metal. With his retro disco number “Because Of You”, the Belgian university teacher Gustaph has apparently not only become a fan favorite in Liverpool, but the singer also made his breakthrough with the audience with his feel-good song.

The title “Stay” has also come true for Monika Linkytė, as the Lithuanian with her lively ballad pop can remain in the competition, as can the Estonian Alika, who with her “Bridges” proved perhaps the strongest female voice in the style of Adele at this year’s ESC . And finally, the Albanian ethnic family Albina & Familja Kelmendi can sing their “Duje” once more in a guttural timbre.

The final stop in the semifinals, however, was for the Piqued Jacks from San Marino with their pick-up line “Like An Animal”. Romania’s Theodor Andrei also presented himself as an animal with “DGT (Off And On)”, which was just as little enough for a final ticket as it was for the two boys in the competition – Reiley from Denmark and the only 16-year-old Victor Vernicos, who appeared on “What They Say” forgot his voice from hyperactive hopping. With “Power” in the semi-finals, Iceland’s Diljá exhausted itself and its chances in the final. And finally, Georgia’s Iru and wind machine with “Echo” won’t have anything like it in the final either.

In the final, the climbers will meet, among others, the highly regarded top favorite Loreen from Sweden, who following winning the 2012 competition with her new number “Tattoo” is being traded as a hot candidate for another triumph. Close on her heels is Finland’s candidate Käärijä with his much heavier song “Cha Cha Cha”.

Whether one of the two Scandinavian countries can cheer at the end in the M&S Arena, whether Teya & Salena prevail as an insider tip or whether a surprise winner reaches for the title, that will be decided, as always, from 9 p.m. ORF 1 is broadcasting live once more, including Andi Knoll’s proven commentary.
