Austria President Claus Salzmann: “Financially, the 2nd league is feasible”

Austria President Claus Salzmann sees only one problem for a return to professional football: the still unresolved stadium issue.

While neo-chairman David Rettenbacher and coach Christian Schaider always openly dreamed of promotion to the 2nd league, President Claus Salzmann put the brakes on euphoria for a long time. “It will be a few years at the earliest, the club is not yet ready to return to professional football,” the Pinzgau entrepreneur said several times.

Salzmann is planning with a budget of two million euros

Now, as with his resignation, Salzmann is likely to take a step backwards. “We are currently preparing the audited balance sheet. We have to hand it in by mid-November. And if everything goes according to plan, then we will apply for a license for the 2nd league in March,” emphasized the purple president on Monday. According to Salzmann, the fact that Austria has to increase its budget from around 300,000 euros to at least 1.5 million euros is not a big problem. “We have loyal sponsors who would enable us to get promoted with additional money. I’m planning on two million euros, we’ll get that together.”

The stadium issue needs to be clarified

The still unresolved stadium issue is a bigger problem for Austria. It must be confirmed by March at the latest that the floodlights and the fan stand in Maxglan do not have to go and that the guest sector can be converted. “Since we don’t get a new stadium, we have to adapt Maxglan. I have verbal promises from politicians, but unfortunately nothing in writing yet. Only if the stadium issue is clarified quickly will the 2nd league be possible,” explained Salzmann, whose club plays in the sport Westliga, despite a 3-0 defeat at the weekend, is still on the best path towards promotion.
