Vienna (OTS) – In the coming years, Austria is expected to make significant progress in expanding the circular economy. It is particularly important to handle packaging waste correctly.
Particularly when it comes to plastic and lightweight packaging, you have to get hands-on. By 2025, the recycling rate in Austria must increase from 25 percent to 50 percent. The requirements that the EU member states have agreed on ensure speed.
To achieve this, the collection quantity must be increased and the collection quality improved. This is achieved by minimizing the number of missed throws into the wrong bin. Of course, this also applies to paper, glass and metal packaging. Because packaging is a valuable raw material and should be OUT OF THE WASTE.
In order to achieve this goal, AUSTRIA COLLECTS provides all citizens with an information platform for all topics related to avoiding, separating, collecting and recycling packaging.
ÖSTERREICH SAMMELT offers practical separation instructions, tools and tips such as the extremely helpful “tear test” and more on its website and social media channels to help you find the right bin. It also shows effective ways to use food, packaging and household items more economically. This makes it easy to integrate the avoidance and separate collection of waste into everyday life.
“It feels good to know what can be created from packaging waste and how avoiding and recycling saves money and resources. In short: collecting packaging is simply environmental protection that works,” says Andreas Pertl from ÖSTERREICH COLLECTS.
Contribution to climate protection
“It is important that we reach as many people as possible in Austria with the right information regarding waste prevention and separation. This particularly applies to packaging. The more we avoid and recycle, the greater the contribution to climate protection and a functioning circular economy,” says Leonore Gewessler, Federal Minister for Climate Protection.
“With the ÖSTERREICH SAMMELT initiative, the packaging collection and recycling systems have created an easily accessible platform for the exchange of information that has already reached more than a million people,” adds Andreas Pertl from ÖSTERREICH SAMMELT.
In autumn 2023, further accents will be set with a new social media campaign. The focus of AUSTRIA COLLECTS ITSELF HAPPINESS are the moments that trigger the good feeling when collecting.
