With a lot of trepidation, Austria achieved its second victory in the spring and remains in the race for the championship group. In the 2-1 (2-0) win once morest SCR Altach, Alexander Schmidt (35th), who had slipped into the starting line-up at short notice, and Frans Krätzig (44th), gave the favorites a 2-0 lead. After a red card for Austria’s Romeo Vucic (57th), Altach threw everything forward. Vorarlberg mightn’t do more than Christian Gebauer’s goal (78′).

Before the Sunday games, Austria initially moved past Rapid into sixth place. The big Vienna derby in Hütteldorf is on the program next week. Altach remains tenth, the lead over the last places remains the same.

Austria coach Michael Wimmer had to change his plans in front of 12,448 spectators. Muharem Huskovic sat out following the warm-up due to adductor problems, while Schmidt took over the role as central striker. At Altach, Tobias Schützenauer was in goal instead of the ill Dejan Stojanovic, while in attack coach Joachim Standfest relied on the agile Gustavo Santos instead of Atdhe Nuhiu.

Schmidt quickly got into the spotlight, and following his assist, Vucic hit the ball. Altach, who were actually expected to be deep by Austria, built up pressure early on and tried to disrupt the Viennese’s build-up to the game right from the start. A plan that worked. The Rheindörflers managed to win the ball a few times, but once once more they mightn’t achieve the crowning finale.

After a quarter of an hour, Austria still scored. Schmidt energetically beat Paul Koller following a long ball, and Dominik Fitz circled his assist into the corner. However, following VAR intervention, referee Daniel Pfister punished a handball by Schmidt and the goal did not count. Altach was still in the game, with a ping-pong ball and a shot from Lukas Jäger not missing much.

After half an hour, Austria had more control of the game once more and took advantage of a mistake by the guests to take the lead. Sandro Ingolitsch shot at Fitz while trying to clear the ball, Schützenauer was able to parry Vucic’s half-volley, but Schmidt made the save. Shortly before half-time, Krätzig scored his first Bundesliga goal. Ingolitsch’s loan from Bayern allowed Ingolitsch to fumble technically and finished it himself.

Austria started the second half better, but an attack from Vucic gave Altach numerical superiority. Pfister went to the monitor once more and gave a red result to the striker’s follow-up once morest the hunter who fell on him.

Wimmer switched to a back four and Schmidt even had the opportunity to make it 3-0 with his header. Steadfast, on the other hand, brought fresh offensive forces and a real starting point in Nuhiu. Altach had little success in the game, so a standard situation had to be used: Substitute Gebauer took a successful shot following a corner that was defended too short.

The great Viennese tremor came. Johannes Handl saw yellow and will therefore miss the derby due to suspension. In the Altach power play, Ousmane Diawara shot over with a volley (88th), Lukas Fadinger finished too centrally (89th). After eight minutes of stoppage time, the purple victory was certain.
