Austria: 6 friends get caught in a storm – 3 are killed by a tree
Six women were hiking in the Scheibbs district on Thursday and got caught in a storm. Three women were killed and one injured.
On Thursday evening at around 5.45 p.m. an emergency call was received in the Lower Austrian district of Scheibbs that several women had been hit by trees and injured. A large contingent of police and rescue services as well as two ambulance helicopters made their way to the scene of the accident.
But for three women, any help came too late, the helpers might do nothing more for the trio. Another woman suffered minor injuries, but two women escaped with the horror. According to police spokesman Johann Baumschlager, the victims were killed by trees – the trees may have been struck by lightning, like Heute.at reported.
The six middle-aged Austrians may have gone on a hike in the Scheibbs district, allegedly to the Herrenalm. They may have been caught off guard by a storm. Police investigations are ongoing and the dead women were flown out by helicopter.
