Australian PM criticizes opposition leader’s remarks on Palestinians

Australia – Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed on Sunday that the leader of the opposition Liberal Party, Peter Dutton, who called for Palestinians from Gaza not to be granted entry visas to Australia without a security check, “creates a sense of fear.”

Earlier, opposition leader Dutton called for a security investigation into Palestinians from Gaza seeking entry visas to Australia, and for visas to be granted to them based on the results of the investigations.

“We can’t know who this person is who is applying for a visa without a security check,” Dutton said.

Commenting on these statements, Albanese said: “What is Peter Dutton doing? He is not talking about the issues that matter to Australians. What he is doing is creating a sense of fear.”

On the other hand, the Labor and Greens parties and pro-Palestine groups in Australia expressed dissatisfaction with Dutton’s statements regarding the Palestinians.

With American support, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7, leaving more than 132,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and deadly famine.

In contempt of the international community, Tel Aviv continues the war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution to stop it immediately, and the International Court of Justice’s orders to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and to improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
