MARC Marquez (Gresini) scored his third win this season after beating Jorge Martin at the Australian MotoGP, Sunday (20/10). The Phillip Island Circuit witnessed a tight battle between Marquez and Jorge Martin (Pramac).

Despite experiencing a bad start due to wheelspin resulting from a tear off his helmet visor, Marquez was able to come back to win the race. Martin finished in second place while the defending champion, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) had to settle for third place.

Marquez managed to overcome Martin’s resistance with a strategy of maintaining tire performance and then maneuvering to overtake on critical laps.

“I used to think it was impossible to catch Martin, but in the fifth, sixth laps, I started to find my rhythm. It’s true that Martin pushed his motorbike throughout the race, but I saved the tires for the final attack,” said Marquez, quoted by Fox Sports.

Martin shot fast to lead the race after the start. Marquez experienced wheelspin which dropped him to 13th position before the first corner.

However, he was able to recover his position and move up to seventh behind Enea Bastianini (Ducati) on the first lap. On the other hand, Bagnaia, who was in third place, overshadowed Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46).

Martin then tried to move away after Bagnaia moved up to second place. Meanwhile, Marquez took on Bastianini and Brad Binder (KTM).

The incident at the start did not affect Marquez’s performance. After overtaking Bastianini and Binder and then Franco Morbidelli (Pramac), he chased Martin and Bagnaia.

In the 10th lap, Marquez overshadowed them. Two laps later, two managed to overtake Bagnaia. Bagnaia relaxed and then the duel left Martin and Marquez.

In the remaining 10 rounds, overtaking occurred between Marquez and Martin. With three laps remaining, Marquez beat Martin at the fourth corner to take over first position to the finish.

Fourth place in the race was won by Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46) followed by Bastianini in fifth.

Morbidelli finished sixth followed by Binder, Maverick Vinales (Aprilia), Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) and Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse) completing the top ten positions. (Z-9)
