Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Australian team has booked a place in the World Cup, which will be held in Qatar at the end of this year, following overtaking the Peruvian team in the international play-off that brought them together, on Monday evening, in the Qatari capital, Doha.
The Australian Kangaroo outperformed Peru on penalties, 4/5, following the end of regular and extra time, with a score of goalless draw.
Australia will join Group D in the 2022 World Cup, along with Argentina, Denmark and Tunisia.
The Australian team is the fifth qualified for the continent of Asia, following the teams: Saudi Arabia, Japan, Iran, South Korea.
Australia qualified for the World Cup finals for the sixth time in its history, and the fifth in a row, as it did not miss the last 4 editions of the World Cup: 2006, 2008, 2010, 2014, 2018.
The 2006 edition, hosted by Germany, is considered the best participation of the kangaroo in the history of its participation in the World Cup, as it succeeded in reaching the final price for the first time in its history, but at that time it was eliminated by the defending champion, Italy.
