Augustana Men’s Swimming & Diving Team Sets Records in Dual Against South Dakota State

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Augustana men’s swimming & diving team won four individual events and claimed a fifth victory in a relay in a dual with South Dakota State Saturday. Ultimately, the Vikings fell in the dual but not without a record-break performance on the boards from David Binsfeld.

In the Fast Lane

Jackson Dircks picked up Augustana’s first win of the day in the 100-backstroke as he touched the wall in 51.29 seconds.
Zheng Yeap (YZ) earned the victory in the 200-breaststroke as the freshman touched the wall in 2:14.71.
The relay victory came in the 200-free with the team of Jackson Dircks, Pedro Borin, Peyton Bartsch and Isaac Rokusek besting SDSU by over a second. The Vikings finished in a time of 1:27.01.
Augustana also had a strong performance by Steven Asmus in the 1,000-free by Steven Asmus as he finished runner-up in 10:19.46. Asmus was also the runner-up in the 200-fly in a time of 2:02.53.
Lui Pinto earned a podium postion in tihe 200-free as he was third with a time of 1:49.13.

Off the Boards

David Binsfeld crushed the school record in the 3 Meter six dive to lead to his sweep on the diving boards. On the 3M, Binsfeld accumulated 292.75 points to win by 55 points.
Binsfeld completed the sweep with 232.2 points on the 1M.
Caden Kavanagh placed second on the 1M board with 208.97 points. On the 3M, Kavanagh totaled 236.10 points for runner-up honors.

Up Next

Both the men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams will partake in the Coyote Extravaganza next week at the Midco Aquatic Center. Action gets underway Friday at 10 a.m. with the conclusion of the event slated for Saturday.
