“When it rains in August, the truffles are at the end”. According to this saying and given the latest monthly report from the Royal Meteorological Institute, the season for this mushroom appreciated by gourmets looks promising since the month of August was wetter than the average for the past 30 years, with 17 days of precipitation in total.
The last month of the summer holidays thus began in the continuity of the month of July: in the rain. A total of 107.9 mm of precipitation was recorded (normal: 86.5 mm). It was especially the first ten days of the month (August 1 to 10) that were particularly rainy since a total of 60.6 mm of precipitation fell in Uccle (normal: 22.8 mm).
The sun nevertheless managed to make its way through the rainy episodes. The total sunshine duration, last month, amounted to 181 hours and 26 minutes in Uccle, however below the normal (192h 26min) of the current reference period, which extends over 30 years (1991 -2020).
As for the average temperature (18.1°C), it is close to the normal for the past 30 years (18.4°C). However, notable differences were noted during the month. The first ten days were particularly cool with an average temperature of 16.0°C once morest 19.0°C for an average month of August. Mercury then climbed, reaching high and low temperatures above their respective normals. Finally, following August 25, the thermometer dropped once more.
On the whole of our territory, the lowest minimum temperature was recorded on August 28 in Elsenborn (Bütgenbach) with 4.5°C. The highest temperature was observed on August 18 in Chéoux (Rendeux) and Marche-en-Famenne with 30.8°C.
