Each month these adjustments. This Tuesday, August 1, is no exception with several changes to note. We take stock.

The price of electricity will increase

Electricity bills will be higher from August 1st. The government announced in July a 10% increase in tariffs as part of a gradual exit from the “tariff shield”.

In concrete terms, the share of household bills borne by the State will drop from 43% to 37%. As a reminder, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, announced in April his intention to exit “by the beginning of 2025” from the shield on electricity and “from this year” for gas.

New at checkout

This time it’s confirmed. First announced for January 1 and then for April 1, 2023, the end of the systematic printing of receipts comes into effect on August 1. The objective is to considerably reduce the waste of paper: 30 billion tickets were printed each year.

If you want to leave with an invoice, you will have to ask for it explicitly at the checkout. Certain products, such as household appliances, computers, games or even furniture, are exceptions since the receipt is necessary to invoke the guarantee. In restaurants and hotels, an invoice will also always be issued because it is necessary for the expense reports made by many customers.

Booklet A, LEP: what changes

As every year, the rates and ceilings of the various savings accounts are revised on August 1 by the Governor of the Banque de France.

Despite inflation, the Livret A remains blocked at 3% with a ceiling maintained at 22,950 euros. However, its rate is guaranteed until January 2025.

The Sustainable and Solidarity Development Booklet (LDDS) also stagnated at 3% for a ceiling of 12,000 euros.

There is a slight decline for LEP, which fell from 6.1 to 6% on 1 August. On the other hand, its payment ceiling increases significantly to reach 10,000 euros against 7,700 euros so far.

Back-to-school allowance

This is the beginning of the payment of the 2023 back-to-school allowance. The latter is paid from August 1 in Mayotte and Reunion, and from the 16 in all the other metropolitan and overseas departments.

More than 5 million children and 3 million families, subject to means, will benefit from it. This financial aid is granted for each child enrolled in school aged 6 to 18, whether with a public or private educational institution. Families who are not yet recipients must apply to their CAF/MSA.

End of sales

They were originally due to end on Tuesday, July 25. Open since Wednesday June 28, the summer sales were disrupted by the urban violence that affected France in early July after the death of Nahel.

While many businesses had been looted and vandalized, the Minister of SMEs and Trade, Olivia Grégoire, had announced its extension until August 1. This date concerns mainland France except Corsica where the period, which began later, will end on August 8.
