“The Dormition of the Virgin Mary, the patron Mother, was unfortunately overshadowed by the devastating fires in Attica”, noted the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou on the occasion of the 15th of August celebration.
In her statement immediately after the doxology for the Fifteenth of August at the Church of the Assumption of the Theotokos Agiasos in Lesbos, where she was present, the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, referred, among other things, to the devastating fire in northeastern Attica.
“We are thinking of all those who were injured”, Mrs. Sakellaropoulou said after the liturgy, thanking those who contributed to extinguishing them and expressing her wish for the restoration of the damages as soon as possible.
“This year’s celebration of the Dormition of the Virgin, which our people honor and recognize as the patron Mother, was unfortunately overshadowed by the destructive fires in Attica. We are thinking of all those affected by them, we thank the firefighters, volunteers and those who, once again, fought the flames heroically, and we hope that the damage will be repaired as soon as possible. Protecting the environment is the responsibility of all of us. Happy birthday!”.
