Vienna (OTS) – Among the signs of inflation, this year’s Unemployed Day is particularly focused on the risk of poverty. Not only electricity and energy prices, but also rents and food prices have risen sharply in recent months. People who are already in precarious living conditions are particularly affected. Those affected by unemployment rarely chose it and are rarely satisfied with their own situation. On the contrary, unemployment stigmatizes, makes you powerless and is usually associated with financial slippage if you are unemployed for a long time. Poverty not only makes you ill, but also leads to exclusion from democratic coexistence. Those affected are rarely heard. If the alleged social hammock is conjured up as an enemy by an aloof ÖVP, it is also accepted that people are stigmatized as not belonging to our society because of their lack of employment. This is the worst way to wedge votes. We should be proud of our social safety net and look where improvements are needed instead of engaging in populist agitation. There would still be some time for that in the government.
