Audi Brussels: closure is becoming clearer

Between a product not at the level of its direct competitors, a market for electric cars that is taking a hit and a high production cost in Belgium, the Audi Brussels site had already felt the wind change when the non-renewal of temporary contracts was announced earlier in 2024. Now the site management has communicated the decision of a restructuring desired by the German manufacturer.

Information et Consultation

This announcement triggered the Belgian legal procedure of information and consultation with social partners to discuss possible solutions for employees and the site. Audi does not rule out a cessation of activities if no alternative is found.

The restructuring might result in the loss of more than 1,000 blue-collar jobs and around 100 white-collar jobs. The news has shocked workers, highlighting the lack of prospects following 2025. Trade unions are consulting their members to decide on the actions to be taken in response to this situation. Audi Brussels remains in discussion with the social partners to explore all possible options.

Production et Perspectives Futures

Current production will not exceed 25,000 cars in 2024, with only 6,000 examples of theAudi Q8 e-tron planned for 2025. No alternative is envisaged for production following 2026, increasing uncertainty for the future of the site.
