Audemars Piguet and rapper Travis Scott unveil a unique Royal Oak

The Swiss manufacturer Audemars Piguet has just presented a new Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Skeleton in collaboration with the Cactus Jack brand, founded by American hip-hop artist Travis Scott. This 41 mm model is entirely designed in brown ceramic, a first for Audemars Piguet.

Audemars Piguet has always nurtured creative synergies with different worlds that combine sport and pop, through art and entertainment. Thanks to its collaborations with several personalities from the world of hip hop and street culture such as Jay-Z or LeBron James, the Swiss manufacturer has made a place for itself in this universe since the beginning of the 2000s. It has even become the one of the most cited brands in rap titles. Today, the Brassus watchmaker is joining forces with the Cactus Jack brand founded by rapper Travis Scott for a new Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Skeleton “Cactus Jack” Limited Edition — this is the first time that Audemars Piguet presents its famous chocolate-colored ceramic.

This is what the Audemars Piguet, imagined by rapper Travis Scott on his latest album, is nicknamed. This is the first time the watchmaker has dressed its Royal Oak model in brown ceramic, the flagship color of the Cactus Jack palette, a technical feat.

This ceramic is made from zirconium oxide (Zr2O) powder stabilized with yttrium and associated with a binder, as well as metal oxides which give it its color. The final brown color only appears once the ceramic is sintered at over 1,000°C.

Each component is then pre-polished and pre-satined before being finished by hand to display the alternation of polished chamfers and satin surfaces. “The Chocolate AP” features hexagonal screws in white gold and a sapphire dial which reveals the skeletonized movement, Caliber 5135. This interweaves rhodium-plated components and rose gold tones which respond in particular to the edging of the day, month and date counters. date present at 9 a.m., 12 p.m. and 3 a.m. respectively.

The Cactus Jack logo appears in the center of the mass which gives the final touch to this collaboration at the crossroads of several universes. The case back bears the engravings “Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar”, “Limited Edition of 200 pieces” and “Utopia is a state of mind”, in reference to Travis Scott’s latest album.

After a brief break of a few days, the Audemars Piguet boutique in New York reopened on the morning of November 30, 2023, unveiling a new design, the result of takeover by Cactus Jack, the opportunity for the brand and the Manufacture to reveal their new collaboration combining fine watchmaking and street culture.
