The film world is reeling from the tragic loss of Jeff Baena, a talented writer and director, who passed away on Friday, January 3rd at the age of 47. Baena died by suicide at his home in Los Angeles, near the Hollywood Hills and Los Feliz areas. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed the details.

A joint statement from Aubrey Plaza, BaenaS wife, and the baena/Stern family shared with The Independent expressed their profound grief: “This is an unimaginable tragedy.We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”
A Legacy of Creativity
Baena was a respected figure in independent cinema, earning a Gotham Award nomination for Best Feature for his work co-writing the 2004 film I Heart Huckabees with director David O’Russell. His other notable credits include the films Life after Beth (2014), The Little Hours (2017), and the Netflix movie Horse Girl (2020).
He and actress Aubrey Plaza began their relationship in 2011, eventually marrying ten years later.
Baena’s sudden passing is a important loss to the film community. He will be deeply missed by his loved ones, friends, and collaborators.

But the joke quickly turned into reality when Plaza stumbled upon “OneHourMarriage.com.” She arranged for an officiant to come to their home while Baena was busy with a food delivery.

Plaza’s neighbor, Dandelion, who is a practicing witch, stepped in to add a touch of magic. Plaza describes Dandelion rummaging through her house before emerging with a rosemary wreath. Plaza used the wreath to create a makeshift love altar in her yard,setting the stage for a truly unique ceremony.
